    Hi,
I am trying to update Responsive Menu Pro from v3.1.4 to the latest version (v3.1.11).

I get an error message “Update Failed: Could not create directory. responsive-menu-pro/tests/app/Validation/Validators” however the directory already exists. I tried renaming the directories at different points along the path, starting with ‘tests’.

Responsive Menu [non-Pro] is installed on the same site and this updated without issue.

Please advise on best way forward…

    Alex

    Hey Alex,

It sounds like there is an issue with the permissions on those folders specifically on the server.

Have you checked the owner or permissions on that selection of the folder structure on your server and are they different to other plugins installed on your server?

Alternatively, how did you originalyl install the plugin? I’m not sure if originally the plugin was installed under a different user or with a user with higher permissions than the user that is trying to update the plugin.

To clarify, when I say user above, I mean your server user not your WordPress user.

    Please let me know

    Peter

    Thanks Peter,
I expect that I installed the plugin via the WP add plugin function, using the ZIP file I downloaded.

Due to the hosting being used for this particular site, it is not easy to view the current folder permissions. I have now set all directories within the plugin to be 755 and all files to 644.

Can I use the export function, delete and then reinstall the plugin using a new download, and then use the import function – will this retain my settings and import into the new version?

I’m happy to try other troubleshooting if it is helpful.

    Hey Alex,

You can export the settings and import for peace of mind but in reality it is not needed.

The settings are saved in the database, so deleting the plugin will have no effect on your settings.

Let’s see if your changes work for you and if not, we will look at other options.

    Please let me know

    Peter

    Hi Peter,
The file/folder permissions changes did not have an effect.

I deleted the plugin from the WP plugins page, then downloaded the latest version from your site and installed it.

    This worked.

    Hey Alex,

That is very strange, I can’t even guess as to what happened to get it out of sync.

If you have any ideas in future please do let me know.

    Peter
